Lots of chatter today at the NB Bowhunters Education Association meeting about how to administer/teach (for DNR) the potential influx of crossbows and hunters for the proposed date of fall 2011.

A "Yes" to accepting the "teaching/education" responsibility...but a NO (as an org) to supporting them in "archery only" deer and bear seasons.  They (NBBEA) do not support them getting in on early/exclusive  archery seasons, citing they should either have their own season, or at least belong in "rifle only".

If thats the case, why not include the Crossbow Trg in the general Hunters Ed Course/Firearms Safety Trg ???

As you prolly have already noticed or heard, there was alot of debate here in NS about crossbows and their seasons when they were first introduced It seems as of now people are settling quite well with them being introduced and what seasons are permitted .  I am pretty sure though the NSACH is going for gold and trying to get them  permitted use, where ever and whatever seasons they possibly can . I think this will change things up again on how people look at this introduction . IMO

Myself I do not think you will see it happen this year , still too early I think to have it all . Not saying I am against it but just think it is too early to ask for it all .

What they will have to do is hash it out with both organizations Bow & Firearm to see which course they will use to have their training in . They will most likely follow suite with NS and put training in with the bowhunters ed or just have a single one for x-bow . I am pretty sure it is online here now as a single course . It was a touchy subject with BANS (Bowhunters Association of Nova Scotia) When this was all first brought fourth .

Crossbows were an even more debated issue with BIANS(Bowhunter Instructor Association Of N.S.).
Most people dont know but there were instructors that quit teaching the course after they were told that they would have to teach crossbow hunters.
We now have a separate online course for crossbows....and from what im hearing DNR is looking into changing other courses to online instead of classroom taught.

No crossguns here in NB this fall, and highly unlikely for the fall of 2011 - an election is due this September, and there won't be the time to get the regulations in place before DNR prints the annual summary.

Possibly for 2012 by the sounds of things

Right on , Thanks for the update Deerman ,,,,, I like your name you used , "crossgun " LOL,LOL Carefull where you say that one ........really touchy subject somplaces ;) LOL,LOL

Do you think it would be a good move to allow them into N ? Do you think it will boost the number of hunters in the woods if they do implement it ?
